beachside bar in ko phi phi, thailand: the last morning of my trip. melancholy oldies sputtering from a speaker inches away from me. looking out at the longtail boats - colorful, still - i found myself watching two children enjoying the same view. they drew lines in the sand, ran to play beneath the pier, returned and sat beside each other in silence. the afternon absorbed us. and soon it was time to go.
we called it a car-cation, and got away from the city. after a couple hours stuck in traffic, we arrived at storm king art center, an open-air museum where each sculpture and installation seemed like it stood on its own acre of land. with one hour before closing, i knew i'd see only a few artworks, but i didn't care: the sun was setting, the paths were bathed in color, the place was shimmering with life. we strolled, then ran, then scaled a hill to see one final piece. the day was vanishing, and in those minutes, all i knew was the need to shoot.
